Rules and Regulations ("Contest Rules")

OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. SEE ELIGIBILITY SECTION BELOW FOR FURTHER DETAILS. TO COMPLETE YOUR ENTRY YOU MUST READ AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES. PARTICIPATION IN THIS CONTEST CONSTITUTES FULL AND UNCONDITIONAL AGREEMENT AND ACCEPTANCE OF THESE CONTEST RULES.

ELIGIBILITY: No purchase necessary. The Contest begins at 7:30 pm EST on Friday, September 26th, 2008 and closes at 11:59 pm EST on Saturday, October 4th, 2008 (the "Contest Period").

This contest is open only to legal residents of Ontario 21 years of age or older and who live within a 50 mile radius of the City of Toronto. Employees (and their immediate families and those with whom they are domiciled) of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. ("MLSE"), the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Maple Leafs Network Ltd., Molson Breweries, AM640 Toronto Radio, The Toronto Star Newspapers Ltd., ViaRail Canada Inc. (the "Contest Sponsors"), the National Hockey League and its Member Teams, NHL Properties, Inc., and each of their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, governors, agents, their advertising and promotional agencies are not eligible to enter. Immediate family includes the husband, wife, son, daughter, brother, sister, mother, or father of an individual.

HOW TO ENTER: No purchase necessary. There are three (3) ways to enter:

Method #1 – Watch Leafs TV: To enter obtain the Leafs TV Rivalry Train Contest entry code words (each a "Codeword") by: (i) watching the September 26th, September 27th, September 29th, October 1st, October 3rd. and October 4th Maple Leafs games on Leafs TV (the "Eligible Games"). Each Eligible Game will have a unique Codeword associated with it. During the Applicable Entry Timeframe specified on the Contest Schedule, submit the applicable Codeword by: (i) visiting mapleleafs.com/contests and fully completing and submitting the entry ballot including the applicable Codeword for the applicable Eligible Game; or (ii) texting (SMS the applicable Codeword to short code 53237 (An entry submitted by this method shall hereinafter be referred to as an "SMS entry").

Method #2 – Read the Toronto Star: Obtain a Codeword by reading the Toronto Star during the Contest Period. During the Applicable Entry Timeframe specified on the Contest Schedule, submit the applicable Codeword by visiting thestar.com/contests find the "Leafs TV Molson Canadian Rivalry Train" Contest link, click on the "enter now" button and fully complete and submit the entry ballot including the applicable Toronto Star Codeword.

Method #3 – Be a Toronto Star E-Subscriber: Ensure that you are a Toronto Star E-Subscriber prior to 9:00 a.m. EST on Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 by visiting thestar.com/utilities/delivery and completing the E-Subscriber registration form in full. Then, during the Contest Period, look for the "Leafs TV Molson Canadian Rivalry Train" Toronto Star email in order to obtain a Contest Codeword, which will be required to enter the Contest. Follow the provided link and fully complete and submit the on-line entry ballot, including the applicable Toronto Star Contest Codeword.

Limit one entry per person per Codeword regardless of Method of Entry. Odds of winning depend on number of eligible entries received for each Codeword during the Applicable Entry Timeframe. Internet entries must be submitted from a valid e-mail account that may be identified by reverse domain name search. Multiple entries by the same person using one or more e-mail accounts or using any device to play multiple times or as multiple contestants will result in disqualification. Selected entrants may be required to provide Contest Sponsors with proof that the selected entrant is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the winning entry. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of a winner based on an SMS entry, the winning entry will be deemed to be made by the authorized account holder of the mobile phone number at the time of entry. "Authorized account holder" is the natural person who is assigned a mobile telephone number by a wireless provider, telecommunications carrier or other organization responsible for assigning the submitted mobile telephone number. Selected entrants may be required to provide the Contest Sponsors with proof that he/she is the Authorized Account Holder of the mobile telephone number associated with the selected SMS entry. To enter via SMS Text Messaging, you must have a mobile telephone that has a two-way text messaging capable handset and digital service feature. Standard text messaging service charges apply. Check your carrier plan for your standard text messaging fees. All entries will become the property of the Contest Sponsors and will not be returned. Entries which are incomplete or fraudulent are null and void. The Contest Sponsors accept no responsibility for entries which are lost, misdirected or delayed for any reason. Nor is any responsibility assumed for incomplete entries, incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry information, including (but not limited to), malfunction, human error, lost/delayed/garbled internet/e-mail transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or failures of any telephone, technical, network, online, or hardware or software or any combination hereof.

PRIZES: There are a total of fifty four (54) Grand Prizes available to be won, each consisting of a trip for two (2) to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan at 8:00 pm (ET) on Thursday, October 9th, 2008 (the "Game") including;

  • Return travel for two (2) via chartered train and bus from Toronto to Detroit on October 9th, 2008 on the LEAFS TV Molson Canadian Rivalry Train, returning October 10th, 2008;
  • Two (2) tickets to the Game (specific seating to be determined by Contest Sponsors); and
  • One (1) night standard hotel accommodation (one room, double occupancy, selected by Contest Sponsors) in or around Detroit on the night of October 9th, 2008.

Grand Prize Winners and guests are solely responsible for any costs or expenses not specifically described above as included in the Grand Prize, including but not limited to ground transportation to and from winner’s residence/hotels/train stations/arena travel and/or, medical insurance, meals, drinks, gratuities, taxes, and all incidental and personal expenses. Winner is not entitled to any difference between actual and stated value. Each Grand Prize Winner and their guest must be 21 years of age or older at the time of travel in order to participate. Train travel does not qualify for collection of any loyalty points.

The approximate retail value of each Grand Prize is $800 CDN.

Grand Prize winner and designated guest must participate in all aspects of the Grand Prize (ie, winner cannot have different guests for different aspects of the Grand Prize). All travel arrangements, accommodation, scheduled events and other aspects of the itinerary will be arranged by the Contest Sponsors in their sole discretion. Grand Prize winner and guest must be able to travel on the dates and at the times designated by the Contest Sponsors or such prize will be forfeited and may be awarded to an alternate entrant.

Grand Prize Winner and guest must follow all directions of Contest Sponsors and/or Event organizers. Failure to do so may result in termination of their participation, or continued participation, in the Grand Prize. Grand Prize Winner and guest may not be permitted into any licensed area unless they can show valid identification to verify proof of legal drinking age (21 years old in the State of Michigan). Sponsors do not condone and will not be held responsible for any illegal purchase or consumption of alcohol. Grand Prize Winner and guest are responsible for all required travel documentation and must be free from any legal restrictions on their ability to travel or otherwise participate in the Grand Prize. Selected entrants and guest must hold and present to Contest Sponsors proof of valid travel documentation within twenty-four (24) hours of Grand Prize notification. Failure to produce such documentation within the twenty-four (24) hour period will result in the disqualification of the selected entrant, and the Contest Sponsors may select another entrant from the balance of entrants using the applicable Codeword. The Contest Sponsors are not responsible for any costs, expenses or inconveniences if Grand Prize Winner and/or guest are denied entry into the United States. Should the prize winner and/or his/her guest be denied entry to the United States for whatever reason no make good prize will be awarded. The Grand Prize Winner may be required to present a valid major credit card in Grand Prize winner’s name upon hotel check-in to cover any expenses incurred above and beyond standard room charges.

WINNER SELECTION: Potential Grand Prize winners will be selected, on the Draw Date specified in the Contest Schedule, by way of a random draw to be held at MLSE offices from among all eligible entries received using the applicable Codeword.

Selected entrants will be contacted within twenty-four (24) hours following the drawing either by telephone or by e-mail at the telephone number or e-mail address, as the case may be, provided by the entrant on the Contest entry. At such time, the selected entrant will be required to correctly answer, unaided, a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question to be administered by MLSE and confirm his/her eligibility. If the selected entrant does not meet all of the Contest conditions, fails to answer the skill-testing question correctly, fails to sign and return the declaration and release form as specified by the Contest Sponsors, fails to produce valid travel documentation for the selected entrant and their guest within twenty four (24) hours of selection, or contact cannot be made within twenty-four (24) hours of initial contact attempt, that entry will be disqualified and MLSE shall be entitled to select a new name from all remaining eligible entries for the applicable Codeword. The Contest Sponsors are not responsible, whether as a result of human error or otherwise, for any failure to contact any potential winner. Once declared the winner, selected entrants will be directed as to how to claim his/her prize. The name of the Grand Prize Winners may be published on mapleleafs.com or via the LEAFSTV outgoing email messaging tools within ten (10) business days of the drawing. To receive the name of the Grand Prize Winner, send a postage-paid envelope to LEAFS TV Contests, 40 Bay Street, Suite 400, Toronto, Ontario, M5J 2X2.

Contest Sponsors reserve the right to reallocate unredeemed Prize tickets in any fashion they see fit in the event that an insufficient number of entries are received via any method of entry or in the event insufficient Prizes have been redeemed by selected entrants.

GENERAL RULES: Each prize must be accepted as awarded and no prize substitutions of cash or otherwise or transfer of the prize will be made, provided that the Contest Sponsors may make prize substitutions of equal or greater value. No telephone contact or correspondence will be entered into except with potential prize winners.

By entering this Contest, each entrant consents to the use of his/her name, image, photograph, voice statement(s) and city of residence by the Contest Sponsors and the NHL, without further compensation, for any and all publicity purposes, commercial or otherwise, in all media. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations and shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.

By entering the Contest, each entrant agrees to be bound by these rules and regulations and all decisions of the Contest Sponsors, which decisions are final with respect to all matters relating to the Contest, including (without limitation) the selection of prize winners. All decisions made by the Contest Sponsors with respect to any aspect of this Contest are final.

Before being awarded a Grand Prize, potential winners and his/her guest must sign a Declaration, Release and Waiver form provided by the Contest Sponsors, releasing the Released Parties from any and all liability arising from, among other things: (i) participation in the Contest; and (ii) acceptance of the prizes awarded therein; and (iii) the administration of the Contest and distribution of the prizes awarded therein.

By entering the Contest, entrants agree to hold harmless and indemnify the Contest Sponsors, the National Hockey League and its Member Teams, NHL Properties, Inc. and each of their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, governors, agents, their advertising and promotional agencies (collectively, the "Released Parties") against any and all liability, damages or causes of action (however named or described with respect to or arising out of either: (i) entrant’s participation in the Contest; (ii) the receipt or use of the prizes awarded herein; or (iii) the administration of the Contest (including winner selection) and distribution of the prizes awarded herein.

Entrants hereby release, waive and discharge any and all claims of damage, loss or causes of action (including, negligence), including (but not limited to) death, personal injury or loss or damage to property, which the entrant or any of the entrant’s representatives, heirs, next of kin or assignees ("Entrant’s Representatives") may have or which may hereinafter accrue to the entrant or Entrant’s Representatives against the Released Parties as a result of the entrant’s participation in the Contest or the receipt or use of the Prize(s) awarded herein.

The following are prohibited and will result in automatic disqualification from the Contest: (1) using any method that artificially increases odds of winning; (2) non-compliance with these Contest Rules; and (3) any other act which the Contest Sponsors determine, at their sole discretion, jeopardizes the integrity of the contest.

The Contest Sponsors may terminate, modify, suspend or withdraw from this Contest (and/or any aspect thereof, including methods for selection of the prize winners), in whole or in part, at any time without notice for any reason, without liability, at their sole discretion.

The Contest Sponsors reserve the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value and/or to terminate, modify or withdraw this Contest, in whole or in part (including altering the manner in which the prizes are distributed), at any time, without prior notice for any reason including, but not limited to, the delay or cancellation of the National Hockey League game for which the Grand Prizes are awarded, or, if viruses, bugs, tampering or other causes beyond the Contest Sponsors’ control affect the administration, security, fairness or proper play or conduct of the Contest. In the event a substitute prize is awarded, such prize must be accepted as awarded and cannot be exchanged for cash or otherwise. Further, the Contest Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify any person and void any entries of that person who it believes has tampered with the entry process or any other component of the Contest, whose conduct or action affects the administration, security or fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, or who fails to meet or abide by the Contest Rules and conditions.

The Contest Sponsors do not assume any responsibility for tampering, theft, defects, viruses, human errors including negligence, deletions, technical or telephone, computer line, network, server, access providers, computer equipment or software problems, undeliverable messages, computer errors, lost, misdirected, late or incomplete entries or inaccurate capture of information or any online difficulties that may result in damage or malfunction the computer or the failure of the Contest Sponsors to process any entry and otherwise award any prize. Nor is responsibility assumed for printing errors appearing in these rules or related Contest materials. In addition, the Contest Sponsors will not assume any responsibility of any nature whatsoever in all cases where their inability to hold the Contest or to remit the prizes to the winners results from a cause beyond their control, including Acts of God, weather conditions, strike, lock-out or other labour dispute. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should an attempt be made, the Contest Sponsors reserve the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.

Participants in the Contest acknowledge that Toronto Star has no involvement, responsibility or liability with respect to the delivery and administration of the Grand Prize and all such responsibility and liability rests with the balance of the Contest Sponsors.
